The 10 checkpoints are located between Sydney and within the Kosciuszko National Park. Checkpoints 1-3 will be completed on Day One and 4-10 on Day Two.
Can I join the Super Alpine 500 from Canberra?
Yes, we welcome teams to join us at any point and checkpoint 1 is waived for Canberra residents so they still may complete the challenge.
Will the driving be dangerous?
For those looking to complete the checkpoint challenge we anticipate the driving to be
challenging however all drivers must drive to their ability and the route will be altered by organisers if deemed conditions are unsuitable.
Will I be driving on snow?
For those looking to complete the challenge there may be some snow driving in parts. For this we recommend the fitment of winter tyres or for vehicles to carry and fit chains where appropriate. For those who do not wish to drive on snow then you may end the challenge at any point and tuck into Thredbo to finish your driving component.
How do we access accommodation?
We have accommodation options via our ticketing page, however we also encourage guests to seek their own accommodation on-mountain or at nearby Jindabyne if options become limited.
How do we access Ski Hire and Lift Passes?
Once registered you will be sent a discount code to purchase lift passes and ski hire.
What happens if I break-down?
We recommend all vehicles are registered with a roadside assistance organisation. We will have support vehicles available should your vehicle be unable to continue on and can provide a return trip to Sydney.
My car is small, how do I get my ski gear to Thredbo?
Our support vehicles are available to transport your luggage and ski-gear. Please notify us what you wish to take and we will arrange a drop-point or pick-up service prior to event day.
Are the on-mountain events compulsory?
No, however attendance is encouraged as the Super Alpine 500 is known for its hospitality as much as the driving component.
What happens if we don't complete all the checkpoints?
No sweat! As long as you make it to Thredbo for a weekend of skiing and aprés then you are definitely still a winner!
Is this a race?
No, this is not a race in any way and drivers will be disqualified for breaking the road rules of NSW or the ACT. The challenge is based on the various difficulty of the checkpoints, not the speed in which they are completed.
I'm a beginner skier/snowboarder, can I get lessons?
Yes, a two hour lesson is included with the purchase of your lift passes/ski hire package.
Do I have to stay at the official hotel?
No, Thredbo Alpine Hotel is a great place to stay however rooms are limited so we encourage people to access other accommodation if they can.
How do I get to the Kareela Hutt Lunch?
The Super Alpine 500 Presentation Lunch is held at Kareela Hutt which is a mid-mountain restaurant only accessible via ski-in, ski-out. Please contact us should you wish to attend but are unable to ski.
Can I garage my car in Thredbo?
Unfortunately not, therefore we recommend that you bring a car cover for your vehicle and make sure it has antifreeze in the cooling system. We will be sending more details across to participants about how to prepare your vehicles for the event.
When will photos and video of the event become available?
We have an expert team of photographers and videographers attending who will publish media days and weeks following the event. We will be taking lots of professional photos of your vehicles and the events across the weekend!
How do I prepare my car for the cold conditions?
This will all be covered in your Super Alpine 500 information pack received leading up to the event.
Is the event COVID safe?
Yes, as much as it can be. We are taking all precautions to manage social distancing and hygiene in accordance with government guidelines. Thredbo Resort has led the way in COVID safe practices and therefore all participants must adhere to the on-mountain regulations as signposted.
